My Philosophy

Not just “treat the eating disorder”

but the whole person who developed one

Somewhere along the way, you had a lightbulb moment: how you’re eating, purging, or monitoring your body is no longer working for you.

And then, eventually, another lightning bolt: you want to… stop. To heal.

You should be proud of getting to this place. But you’ve probably also discovered that wanting to stop isn’t enough. Willpower just isn’t enough.

That’s not your fault. It’s the nature of eating disorders.

I view eating disorder treatment through a holistic, whole-person lens.

We’re going to change your food and body behaviors, yes. But we’re also going to uncover what’s driving them.

Sometimes, that’s past trauma, depression, perfectionism, lack of felt safety, underlying anxiety, or a combination of a lot of different factors.

Understanding the why is what makes the difference between managing the disorder and actually moving past it.

Jennifer Warpool, MA, LCAT, ATR-BC

Hello, I’m Jennifer Warpool, an experienced eating disorder therapist based in CT

Serving clients in-person in greenwich, ct and virtually in ct & Ny

For years, I was an eating disorder therapist in a residential eating disorder treatment program for adolescents.

The young women under my care did benefit from behavior change and challenging negative body image and food judgement — but only truly turned a corner when we began to heal the deeper stuff.

Stuff like identity crises. Unresolved trauma. Grief. A sense that they had to perform all the time. And so on.

Healing at the root not only supports eating disorder recovery but has ripple effects through the rest of your life and relationships.

If you’re reading this right now and feeling scared and tired of your eating disorder (and determined to get better!), you’re in the right place.

Jennifer is a therapist who truly meets clients where they’re at, especially when working with adolescents and families navigating eating disorder recovery.

She brings a creative, flexible approach to sessions, including the ability to integrate art therapy when helpful, and also offers family coaching to support and empower parents. With Jennifer’s experience in the field, she is a steady and trusted therapist and guide throughout recovery.

What to expect with eating disorder therapy

We meet for sessions, virtually or in CT

Sessions will be mostly talk therapy, using ACT, CBT, DBT, and more  but I may incorporate other modalities, like art therapy, if it’s appealing to you.

What we talk about varies, but I’ll never, ever judge you.

We talk online to determine fit

This is a low-pressure chat to see if I’m the right fit for your needs.

Get started by booking a 15-minute consult.

I collaborate with your doctor when needed

Eating disorders affect your physical health, too — so I may ask to be connected to your doctor and any other providers you’re seeing.

I can also refer you to a doctor, dietician, or treatment facility if needed.

Book a complimentary 15-minute consult

This is just a quick chat to see if I’m the right fit for your needs. It can be just you, you and your parents, or just your parents. I’m excited to meet you.

Parents: consider parent coaching to support your child

If your child has an eating disorder, you’re probably reeling — wondering what you can do to help them recover. I offer parent coaching to help you align with your child’s treatment plan and understand the steps you can take to support them at home.

Questions about eating disorder therapy?

  • Sessions are $250 per 50-minute session.

  • No, I am an out-of-network therapist in CT and NY. This is an intentional choice to allow for flexibility in how we work together, without the restrictions of insurance requirements.

However, I can provide you with a detailed monthly bill (called a superbill), which you can submit to your insurance for potential reimbursement.

  • I draw from many modalities depending on what I think each person needs, or once we see what each person is responding to. I’m trained in the following approaches:

    • Acceptance and Commitment (ACT)

    • Art Therapy

    • Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

    • Cognitive Processing (CPT)

    • Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

    • Family

    • Humanistic

    • Interpersonal

    • Person-Centered

    • Positive Psychology

    • Strength-Based

    • Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT)

  • Yes! Eating disorders often first show up when girls are children or teens, starting gradually and building over time..

Working with me is a great first step to assess where your child may currently be — I’ll be able to tell you if your child needs more intensive care than I can provide. And can provide resources and additional providers if needed.

  • Great question! I’ll take the lead by asking you what brings you to therapy, and then I’ll explain about my approach and next steps. You can ask me anything you want, and at the end, I’ll ask if you want to book your first session.

There are no hard feelings if you’re not sure — you can just say, “I want to think about it more,” and we’ll leave it at that. If you do want to try a session, you choose virtual or in-person and then select from my next available time slots.

  • Think of our first therapy session as an intake and assessment, but in a conversational, not clinical, way. I’ll ask you some questions about what you’re going through, and at the end, I’ll tell you what I think our therapeutic approach should be and ask for your feedback. You will be an active participant in the process.

  • First and foremost: nonjudgmental.

Secondly, clients tell me I’m direct but kind. I won’t sugarcoat or tell you to think positively, but I also won’t just be a sounding board that validates every thought, because sometimes our thoughts need to be challenged and reframed so we can move forward.

  • Yes! I have extensive experiences will all types of eating disorders, from anorexia to binge eating to ARFID. I am also skilled at collaborating with your other support systems, like doctors, dieticians, and psychiatrists.

As an outpatient therapist in CT and NY, I will tell you if your symptoms require more intensive care than I alone can offer, like an eating disorder treatment center, and I can even recommend some great centers if needed.
